1 Mounting and connection[edit | edit source]
- Connection of the laser sensor via screw terminal (6).
- Mount cover on the D-Sub connector (2) to avoid moisture penetration.
- Use right-angeled cabel gland (3) to avoid moisture penetration.
- Module ID switch (7) to 0.
- Never push the Reset switch (5)!!!
- To establish a connection to the sensor via RS422, you have to use the Meilhaus Interface converter, a customized cable and the LLB utility software.

2 Set up the laser sensor[edit | edit source]
Download the LLB Utility
The laser have to be configured to a triggered measuerement. The sensor receive the trigger signal from the S7. The function can be easily tested by applying 24VDC on DO1 (the red laser dot is flashing one time for aporx. 1 sec.). During silo filling the trigger signal appers every 2 min., during silo emptying every 5 min. and in all other conditions every hour. The cleaning valve is open during silo filling with a time lag of 15 min. after filling. After installing the software of the Meilhaus interface converter you have to check on which COM port the interface is working.
Configuration with LLB utility:
Never push the button "RESET" !!!
Some Laptop has to use COM4, Anyway we can find from
the message window right side.
After starting the
software LLB utility the interface settings should be like shown on the
screenshot above. The COM port is depending on you computer. By pushing the button “CHECK CONNECTION” the
connection can be checked.
By pushing the Button “MEASURE” on the page “Commands”
you can measure the actual distance of the laser sensor. To adjust the sensor
on the S7 software you have to measure the height of the empty silo with
this function.
The output configuration on page “Output configuration”
Minimum current level: 4 mA
Current Level in error case: 4 mA
Distance corresponding to minimum current level: 25000 mm
Distance corresponding to maximum current level: 1000 mm
After setting the correct values, download them on the laser sensor by pushing the button “DOWNLOAD TO MODULE”
Every laser sensor is configured to the measuring range 0-25000 mm. The actual filling level is
calculated via the S7 with the before measured value of the empty silo.
Sometimes that the Measured distance correct but the analog output not correct, so we have measure
the mA output to compare with the Measured distance. I tried by click the
“DOWNLOAD TO MODULE” to get the right value.
3 In case somebody pushed the reset button, follow this description[edit | edit source]
You need to go online to the sensor via Hyper Terminal (see attachment "Hardcopies HyperTerminal").
When you online, you have to change the digital output to a digital input (trigger input, to start the measurement),
entering following command: s0DI1+2 (accept with ctrl+enter)
You should get as feedback: g0DI1
to save enter: s0s (accept with ctrl+enter) feedback will be again g0s
You can see this in the attachment "Tera Term".

After Starting LLB60 it is shown following start sequence
Position inquiry and answer of LLB60(single distance measurement): Close the inquiry with “enter” key
Start Tracking and answer of LLB60(Long-term usage distance measurement): Close the inquiry with “enter” key
