Template:Notice bms

The actual Firmware you will find in the Office here:

\\brueckner.de\dept\BMS_EE_EXT\PUBLIC\Sinamics\

Servtec:

\\brueckner.de\dept\BMS_EE_EXT\PUBLIC\Sinamics_old\

And on site you find it on the KOM.server:

\\KOM\projects\KOM\_engineering\public\drives\Siemens\Sinamics

If you are not sure, you can ask EECIBN!

1 Firmware Update before start of check up / commissioning of drives[edit | edit source]

  • Take out all compact flash cards from the CUs
    • Make sure that they are labeled with the electrical number
    • Delete all contents except the License directory with a card reader (do not delete folder KEYS)
    • Copy the new firmware files to the CF card (extracted zip file)
    • The Firmware can be found on one DVD sent from BMS Germany on site.
    • If you can not find it, please contact Template:EEC-Support
    • Helping Batch-file, with this Batchfile you can update the CF-Card automatically (follow the Checkup-hints in the file)
  • Install the CF card back to the CU and power up the CU.
  • Don’t interrupt the power until the FW update is complete (approx. 5 min)

Now the correct firmware is on the CU. After an automatic configuration, devices connected to the CU are recognized. They might repeat the FW update procedure. After firmware update on SMC, TM or Drive Module is finished, restart them (remove 24V control voltage)

You can see the actual firmware versions in: Overview => Version overview.

With FW4.6 HF10 you should see

in Version overview at control unit: 4602123

in web interface: 4.60.21.23

2 Firmware Update after commissioning / bug fix[edit | edit source]

Sometimes there are bugs in some firmware releases. Therefore hotfixes are used to correct this bugs. For example FW 4.4 HF2 had problems with temperature sensor evaluation in the power block. Randomly there was a fault message. In order to get rid of this behavior a firmware update was necessary.

2.1 Procedure minor version[edit | edit source]

Here it is described if only a minor version update is made (only hotfix number changes) for example FW 4.4 HF2 => FW 4.4 HF11

  • go online with all CUs and upload the configuration (Starter is now saving the configuration)
  • switch off CU and take out the CF
  • delete everything except folder KEYS
  • copy new firmware files on to the CF
  • switch on CU again
  • download the configuration (Starter is now restoring the configuration)
  • check if all drives and encoder modules performed the update: Overview => Version overview (like regular update)
  • components might request power off/on by blinking red/green

2.2 Procedure major version[edit | edit source]

Here it is described if a major version update is made for example FW 4.4 HF11 => FW 4.6 HF10

  • go online with all CUs and upload the configuration (Starter is now saving the configuration)

special points for major update procedure

  • go offline with Starter
  • make a Zip file of the Simatic Manager Project (for safety if project crashes later on) and check in this Zip
  • open Starter again
  • right mouse button on device container => Target device => Upgrade device version/characteristic

File:Sinamics Target Device Upgrade.JPG

  • select the target version

File:Sinamics Select Target Device Version.JPG

  • agree to close other Step7 applications (make sure everything is saved in other applications)
  • you can check the log view if you have problems

File:Sinamics Target Upgrade Log.JPG

  • switch off CU and take out the CF
  • delete everything except folder KEYS
  • copy new firmware files on to the CF
  • switch on CU again

special point for major update procedure

  • download (old) DCB lib, right mouse button on device container, select technology packages

  • confirm overwrite

  • download the configuration (Starter is now restoring the configuration)
  • check if all drives and encoder modules performed the update: Overview => Version overview (like regular update)
  • components might request power off/on by blinking red/green

3 Firmware double check version shown in Starter[edit | edit source]

As described above you can show the Version in Starter:

Overview => Version overview

The numbers shown there are not directly same as the names of the firmware versions. Additionally the control unit and drives can have different numbers with the same firmware. Here is a table with all firmware versions that were used at Brückner:

FW version year (approx. from) CU / Firmware CU320/2-S120 Drive / FW Booksize SMM / ALM / BLM / SLM (abo.ufw) SMC / FW Sensor Module SMC20, 6SL..3 (smc20f.ufw)
S120 V2.6 SP2 HF6 2009 2604506 2604505 2604504
S120 V4.3 SP2 2010 4302800 4302800 4302800
S120 V4.4 HF2 2011 4402308 4402309 4402307
S120 V4.4 HF11 2012 4402322 4402322 4402322
S120 V4.6 HF10 2015 4602123 4602116 4602116
S120 V4.8 HF4 2018 4806513 4806512 4806512
S120 V4.8 HF6 2019 4806535 4806533 4806512
S120 V4.8 HF7 2021 4806537 4806533 4806512
S120 V5.1 HF2 never 5102306 5102305 5102301
S120 V5.1 SP1 HF1 never 5104002 5103900 5103700
S120 V5.2 SP3 HF11 2023 5207332 5207321 (DMM = 5207321 / SMM = 5207325 / CUA = 5207323) 5207323
A B C cu D drive E smc

This is only an example for the modules CU, drive (booksize), SMC20. There are more components like TM31, SMC30 ... all of them have their own firmware. To get the corresponding number of the firmware you can look into a textfile included in the zip file of the firmware.

Example: you are using FW4.6 HF10 and you have the zip file SINAMICS_S120_software_V4_6_HF10.zip, inside this zip file you will find the file called CONTENT.TXT.
