1 Note:[edit | edit source]

There is a new version for this sensor, which is used approximately from plan version 1.8.1 onwards. See: Laser Distance Sensor OMR50M-R1000-SSI-V1V1B

2 Laser Direction[edit | edit source]

In which direction the laser look like is not always clear and easy to decide.

Advantage towards the safety fences:

  • an operator from the safety gate don't cross the laser
  • film which is falling down from the core / jumbo don't cross the laser

Advantage towards the winder

  • If there is a roll gate between production line and roll storage, then sometimes the customer want to close the gate also during the unloader Auto-cycle. So the laser need to look towards the winder to have an stable laser signal.

So if there is a roll gate at the customer which will be closed during auto-cycle you can only adjust it towards the winder. If no gate is there, it will be better to adjust it towards the safety fences.

3 Overview[edit | edit source]

The VDM100 is a distance measured device, which works according to the principle of Pulse Ranging Technology. It is for Position measurment by the unloader. Don't start the horizontal drive before you don't adjust the setting below because otherwise the drive always gets an alarm. This distance measured device is now only to show the distance in pvss, it's also like an encoder for the drive. The motors itself are used in U/f mode and don't know their positions. If you start the drive without the settings below, the drive gets the wrong position input und cannot control the motors correct.

4 User Inverface[edit | edit source]

The following picture shows the user interface of the VM100, which is used, to configure it.

5 Configuration[edit | edit source]

The following parameters must be set in the menue of the VDM100. This is the old menu. In the meantime the menu gets changed from Pepperl+Fuchs (see below second picture), but in case of troubles the old menu below is still present

5.1 Old menu[edit | edit source]

5.2 New menu[edit | edit source]

counting direction:

At the new app type "PosUnlLaserEncMot" there is a wizard included which ask you during the scripting about the laser direction. According this wizard the encoder settings are done automatically. The wizard also inform you about the adjustment from the laser settings. Check the unloader article for this: Electric Unloader (no hydraulics)

  • Laser counting direction will be always "Forward" which is the default setting. At the laser you can always see the correct distance between laser and reflector.

the values with the grey background are the default setting!

  • On new unloaders the laser is facing towards the Winder (should be standard), the reflector is mounted inside the winder.
  • On older unloaders the laser is looking towards the slitter.

The wizard during scripting was created to set the encoder directions in the drive and not at the laser.

Because a disadvantage is that the laser display then shows us "maximum distance minus actual measured distance". So for example if you are 4.5m in front of the reflector, the display will show 45.5 meters (which is 50m-4.5m). This looks wired and incorrect. Now all Lasers are adjusted "Forward" and they just show the real distance between laser and reflector.
