This sensor is a semi-conductor that changes its resistance depending on temperature in accordance with a defined curve. It is a temperature dependent resistor with positive temperature coefficient.

For transition to PT1000 (starting from S120 FW4.8) see: Confluence - Temperature Sensors KTY -> PT1000

1 Connection[edit | edit source]

The twin-sensor arrangement has been applied in the KTY81 and KTY82 series. These sensors are therefore polarity independent.

The KTY83/84/85 series use the more basic single-sensor arrangement. The simplicity of this arrangement allows the sensors to be produced in the compact SOD68; DO-34 (KTY83/84) and SOD80 (KTY85) packages. In addition to simplicity, another important advantage of the single-sensor device is the potential for operation at temperatures up to 300 °C. The KTY84 makes use of this property, being specifically designed for operation at temperatures up to 300 °C. These sensors are polarity dependent.

There is no reliable method to measure the Polarity of an already installed KTY84 Sensor. In case that the drawings or data plates are not clear, check that device Manual.

3 SIEMENS Motors with KTY Temperature sensor[edit | edit source]

The KTY Sensor is wired to the Encoder Plug and read by the SINAMIC Encoder Module. Check if you can see the right Temperature in the Drive Parameter Panel in PVSSII.

4 Other Motors with KTY Temperature sensor[edit | edit source]

The polarity is very important for the correct function at temperatures > 100 Degree Celsius

White (WH): Negative (-)

Brown (BN): Positive (+)

Recheck that the color code matches in the Motor junction box and at the cabinet side
