Wiring of the Janitza Measurement Tool UMG96S

The following connectors are bridged on the MBS measurement tool:

  • K to S1.
  • I to S2.

2 Programming the device[edit | edit source]

Explanation of Display symbols and Keys

If you simultaneously press Keys 1 and 2 for around 1 second,programming mode opens Programming mode is denoted in the display by the text “PRG”. You can now use Key 2 to switch between the following programming menus:

  • Current transformer
  • Voltage transformer
  • Parameter list

If you are in programming mode and have not pressed a key for approximately 60 seconds or simultaneously press Keys 1 and 2 for around 1 second, the UMG96S returns to display mode.

Set up instructions:

===Current transformer===
Template:Image
Read the data from the current transducer and enter them here. E.g. 1kA / 5A

In case you have two current transformers with a couple transformer (5A+5A/5A) add the values
Transformer 1 is 500A / 5A
Transformer 2 is 250A / 5A
Total after the 5+5/5 you have to set up a 750A / 5A transformer

===Voltage transformer===

Only used at 690V supplies.

Set up the data written on the transformer

===PROFIBUS Address===
Template:Image
Parameter 000, Value <Bus Address>

Select Parameter 000
Press Key 1 to select a digit in the Parameter number (Line L1) and use Key 2 to change it.
Press Key 1 to select a digit in the Profibus Address (Line L2) and use Key 2 to change it.

  • Quit programming

Simultaneously press both keys for around 1 second.

3 Error Codes[edit | edit source]

Most common errors:

Error Code Description
400 No PROFIBUS communication
500 No Input Voltage detected

4 Sporadic measuring problems[edit | edit source]

If you have a lot of harmonics on the mains of your line sometimes the Janitza shows wrong values. This happens on IR heaters on MDO and on Vacon or Siemens drives for main extruders.

To fix this issue set the Parameter 63 on the Janitza to 1 for 50Hz or to 2 for a 60Hz mains.

5 Confirm Power Supply Current and Power[edit | edit source]

Verify the measured current, power, Cosφ

There are possible sources of wrong measurements

  • Current coil is connected wrong
  • Current L1/2/3 does not correspond to the Voltage L1/2/3

If you have negative cosPhi displayed in PVSS and you wonder why on the Janitza display it only shows positive values note the indication "cap" or "ind".
