Public:IFM SA5000 Flow Sensor

Template:Infobox bms

1 This article is a short guideline for parameterization of the "ifm SA5000" flow sensor[edit | edit source]

For exaple this sensor can be found on the Main Extruder Gearbox Oil Circuit, where it is used for monitoring the oil flow for the gearbox cooling.

Even if the sensor actually has a 4-20mA analog output, in most cases only the digital output is used, since the important point for us is "do we have flow or not??" Template:Notice bms

When first comissioning your sensor, you will need to set the basic parameters. The SA5000 provides different operating modes for flow measurement, which has to be set before further parameterization. Below you find a brief explanation of how to navigate the menu.

  • In our case, we set the operating mode in "ModE" to [REL]. This also should be the factory setting.
  • After every operating mode change, the sensor will reboot
  • Now a Flow Adjustment needs to be carried out, to determine the minimum and maximum flow inside the installation.

First we do the High Flow Adjustment, to determine the 100% flow for the device. This has to be done with warm oil, in the most realistic process circumstances

After this is done, we can move on with the Low Flow Adjustment:

After both calibrations are done, we can set the switching point and reset point of the sensor.

If you have to change the switching point value, it is best to set it to a "safer" option, i.e. more flow, since we want to avoid the gearbox getting not enough oil at all costs. If unsure, you can also always confirm with ETE.

For more information, and also the other functions and possibilities of this flow sensor, please take a look in the attached manual.
