1 Description[edit | edit source]

On newer lines we use cross-lever limit switches for detecting the crane inside the winder & unloader area. This new device will replace the old, sometimes difficult-to-set crane limit switch.

The working principle of our new configuration / device is as follows: The switch "counts" the cranes entering the specific area, meaning with every 90-degree-turn, the counter - which is also shown in the PVSS - increments by one. Also this means, as soon as the crane leaves the area and triggers the switch again, the counter decrements by one, so we always can be sure how many (or if any) cranes are inside the area. If a non-plausible value of cranes inside the area occurs, an alarm is generated, see "Troubleshooting"-section for details.

2 Commissioning[edit | edit source]

Here is a brief overview how the devices should be installed:

As it was with the "old version", the first thing that should be taken care of is the proper mounting of the switches themselves, and the bar (attached to crane) that triggers them on both of the cranes that can reach the winder area (maintenance crane and Winder-Unloading crane e.g. Bonfanti Automatic crane)

  • Set the switch to 0-Position and mount the red-marked pin like shown with the BLUE ARROW, see bitmask below for details.

  • If the wiring etc. is correct you will be able to compare the inputs from the bitmask with the Crane Switch Panel in PVSS:

  • arrange a manlift, and go up to the switch to set the exact postions, the trigger-bars already have to be installed!

  • go with all relevant cranes over the switches a few times, to ensure they are switching properly every time, and the counter is counting in the correct direction!
  • When you are sure that everything is mounted correctly, tighten the 4 screws (YELLOW ARROW) and mark their positions with a permanent marker.
  • If you experience problems with the counting direction, make sure that the correct mode is set in the software! Find the explanation below.

Mode 0: first switch in film direction, mounted left (positive count in clockwise direction)

Mode 1: first switch in film direction, mounted right (negative count in clockwise direction)

3 Troubleshooting[edit | edit source]

  • Alarm Device : Hardware or cabling has a defect / wrong signal combination.
  • Alarm Maximum: Switch reached the maximum count and switched from -180° to +180°, i.e. "over" its counting ability (max. 2 cranes in 1 area)

In case of a count fault you will see number 99 in the parameter panel, indicating that its out of range. If this happens consider setting up the trigger pins etc. again, because these need a quite exact setting to operate correctly.
