Template:Infobox bms

1 Application[edit | edit source]

MDO IR Heating at PET lines. Newer Lines should come with IR-Heaters from Carlo Gavazzi: https://kiwi.brueckner.com/mediawiki/index.php/Public:Carlo_Gavazzi_IR-Heater

2 Modules[edit | edit source]

2.1 Thyristor power controller[edit | edit source]

The thyro-AX controller is a component which may only be used to control and regulate electric energies in industrial alternating or three-phase networks. The Power Unit is suited for single phase loads.

2.2 Bus module Profinet[edit | edit source]

The Ethernet bus module can connect up to 8 power controllers of type Thyro-A, type Thyro-AX 1A and type Thyro-S with a master. Several bus modules can be used on one system.

3 Terminal Connection[edit | edit source]

3.1 Thyristor power controller[edit | edit source]

  • Electronic supply:
The electronics of the control device is supplied by a seperate connection with 230V~/110V~.
The connection is made at terminals X4.1 and X4.3. Terminals X4.1 and X4.2 along with X4.3 and X4.4 are internally bridged for alternative connection option.
  • Power supply and load:
Make sure that the load (IR-heater) is connected to the Terminal T1 and N.
The Controller Power supply 230V~/400V~ should be connected to the Terminal L1. On Terminal X1.1 connect N or the other middle phase. When connecting to a phase a 2A slow acting fuse is required, at N the connection can be made directly.
Terminals X1.1 and X1.2 are internally bridged.
Terminals X22.1...X22.4 are used for the communication to the bus module.

3.2 Bus Module Profinet[edit | edit source]

  • Electronic supply:
Make sure that the connection of the external 24V power supply is made at the terminals X11.1(+) and X11.2(-).Ground to X11.3.
  • Connecting the Power Controller to X1-X8 of the Bus Module:
Switch off the main Power Supply including the external 24V Power source.
Connect the interfaces X1 to X8 of the bus Module to the system interfaces of the Power controller.
Make sure a shielded four wire cable is connected at the terminals X22.1...X22.4 of the power controller to X1.1...X1.4 of the bus module.
  • Bus Module connection to the Master (PLC):
One of the Ethernet ports at Terminal X202 has to be connected to the PLC or to a switch.
To connect to Thyro-Ax module, A standard patch cable (straight) is required for direct connecting with a Thyro-Ax Module. For a connection via switch, a cross-over cable is required.

5.1.1 Functionality and Operating Modes[edit | edit source]

The Thyro-Ax is equipped with a variety of functions, so it can be fitted to the desired application.
For optimal adaptation to different applications or varying electrical loads the appropriate operating mode can be selected by the User.

Following modes could be selected:

  1. Full Wave Mode Takt
  2. Phase Angle Firing Var (Only Thyro-AX 1A and 3A)
  3. SST ramp in operating mode Takt
  4. Quick Takt Mode Qtm (Only Thyro-AX 1A)
  5. Switch Mode Switch
  • Select the Quick Takt Mode QTM operating mode, because of its high control dynamics.
  • Settings->Operating->QTM.
  • Or set to VAR like shown below.

5.1.3 Limitations[edit | edit source]

In addition to the configured control mode the following variables can be limited:

-Voltage limitation (U)
-Current limitation (I)
-power limitation (P)
  • Set the voltage limitation (U) to the supply voltage accordingly (400V/600V).
  • Set the current limitation (I) to the nominal current of the load.
  • Set the power (P) to the nominal power of the load.

Example:

  • U = 600V
  • I = 20A
  • P = 12kW

5.1.4 Load monitoring[edit | edit source]

The load monitoring is a function to identify a breakdown or wire break of one or more resistors connected in parallel series. Therefore the values of load resistance characteristic have to be in the device.

Values Set: Several ways to adjust the Load resistence (R_Max):

  • TeachIn function (preferred): the load characteristic will be measured automatically.
Preparations for the TeachIn:
  • Connect with the Thyro-Tool and adjust the monitoring and R auto wait like shown in the picture below.
    • Activate Rmin, Rmax, Ipeak max and Temperature unit max
  • The R auto wait is the measuring time for the TeachIn. Set to 120s. Within 120s the temperature is high enough for a stable resistor.
File:Thyro-AX-TeachIn1.PNG

  • TeachIn
Execute like following: Menu-->TeachIn

*Check that the Thyro-AX controller runs stable at 100% controller output!!!

In case of errors at 100% output, adjust the Rmax limit manually!!!
  • Manual entry of load resistor value via Display: It will shows the arithmetic mean of 10 values of the resistor characteristics.
Menu-->Settings-->Monitoring.

you can see the defined resistor values in the software Thyro-Tool AX: see first (Thyro-Tool AX software).

File:Thyor Tool AX devices R MAX.png

Under Regulation -> Monitor deselect all. The temperature unit maximum will be set automatically for devices safety.

Set like shown.

File:Thyro-AX-Regelung.PNG

If a heater is not working anymore or has a wire break following message in Thyro-Tool AX Software and in PVSS will appear and the display screen will turn red.

5.1.5 Pulse inhabitation[edit | edit source]

Make sure the bridge is installed between the terminals X2.2 and X2.1. In case of missing connection the pulse inhabitation is activated, which means the current does not flow anymore.
By missing connection the touch display turns red and in the data logger "pulse on" is listed.

5.1.6 Parameter save/load[edit | edit source]

The Parameter Settings can be done either by the touch display or by using the Thyro-Tool-AX Software.
Use the Ethernet port to establish a connection between a PC and the Thyristor controller.

File:USB Ethernet ports.png

1.Ethernet Port
2.USB Ports

5.1.6.1 Write/Read parameter via USB[edit | edit source]

The parameters can be also transferred from one device to another of the same type by using a USB stick.

Write parameter from device to USB-stick:

  • Plug in a USB-stick.
A message will show up and asks to disable the Output--> pulse inhabitation will be activated (means no current flow).
  • Agree with OK, the display turns red.
  • Select write parameter to download file from Device--> USB-stick.
  • After parameter are downloaded, the message "DONE" will be shown.
  • Unplug the USB-stick, agree the message to activate the output with OK. Device will turn to normal operation again.

Read parameter from USB-stick to Device:

  • Plug in a USB-stick.
A message will show up and asks to disable the Output--> pulse inhabitation will be activated (means no current flow).
  • Agree with OK, the display turns red.
  • Select read parameter to download file from USB-stick--> Device.
  • Agree the message "Save to EEPROM" after downloading the parameter.
  • unplug the USB-stick, agree the message to activate the output with OK. Device will turn to normal operation again.

The supply voltage is not always displaying the value (e.g.400V) in PVSS but shows up after switching on the thyristor. That is related to the fact that the Thyro-AX is measuring The voltage on the load side and then determined by the modulation of the supply voltage. Since the accuracy increases with increasing modulation of the line voltage, the supply voltage is not displayed at low power levels.

9 Troubleshooting[edit | edit source]

9.1 Thyro AX is not Reading/Writing parameter file via USB[edit | edit source]

  • Check if the latest firmware version is installed on the Device.
For upgrading the Firmware, see (Firmware update).

9.2 Frequency tolerance exceeded error[edit | edit source]

If the controller shows "frequency tolerance exceeded" error and the heaters goes off due to that error, increasing the frequency tolerance range would be a solution.

File:Thyro AX frequency tolerance error.JPG

Steps to increase the tolerance range

1. Connect to the controller
2. Enable extended range of functions
File:Thyro AX enable extrended range of functions.JPG
3. Type the Password accordingly (aeg+actual day+actual hour) (aeg[DD][HH]).
For example date of the day is 11/16/2017 and time is 07:54 AM Password: aeg1607
File:Thyro AX enable extrended range password.JPG
4. After enabling extended range select Tools-> manual parameter query…
File:Thyro AX manual Parameter .QueryJPG.JPG
5. Select the controller and type in the field Link the address of the frequency tolerance range parameter 0_0_75_0_3, change the correspondent value from default value 5 to e.g. 10 and send then save the new configuration to the controller
