1.2 Network Connection[edit | edit source]

The serial interface of the communication board is no longer used for commissioning as it is deactivated by default. Setting up the network configuration is directly done over the ethernet port.
The UPS is deliverd together with a CD containing the Masterguard ManageUPS software, which is scanning the network for an uninitialized UPS. As this is sometimes not working properly, an alternative way of setting up the UPS is described below:

By default the ethernet inferface is waiting for an IP assignment over a DHCP server:

  • Download and extract media:Dhcpsrv2.3.zip
  • Connect your notebook directly to the UPS' ethernet interface
  • Change your computer's network settings to a fixed IP (e.g. a free address in the line network)
  • Start the DHCP server wizard (dhcpwiz.exe)
    • Choose your notebook's network interface
    • Set the IP-pool to the UPS' future IP address
    • Save the configuration by clicking the Write INI file button (check overwrite if the file already exists)
  • Tick the Run DHCP server immediately box, Finish and then click the Continue as tray app button
  • Reboot the network interface of the UPS by unplugging/plugging it
  • An info message appears as soon as the UPS is trapped
