1 Installer Software

You can download the Starter Software free from the Siemens Homepage.

2 Windows restart message

It is possible, that windows is requesting a restart every time the installation is started. In that case if message appears after a restart again, you need to edit the registry.

Delete the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager/PendingFileRenameOperations

3 Installation

copy and extract all files to a local drive (typically C:) and make sure to have a folder structure similar to the picture below.

• Execute Setup.exe

• Select English for installation language

• Accept license
• Select User-Defined installation

• Select the packages
  • Default Settings
  • + Simatic CFC is necessary for DCC
  • + Simocom U/A for Posmo Drives
  • + Drive Monitor for BST/Upgradings

• If there is a previous installation accept the uninstallation.

• Wait for pretty long time (>1,5h) to finish the installation. That's Siemens, they are not in a hurry.

4 Troubles at Starter V4.4 installation

There might be a warning at the beginning, ignore it.

4.1 PKZIP

If there is a error message while archiving projects, copy the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\PKWARE\PKZIPC to C:\PKWARE\PKZIPC.

5 Accelerate Start up

In order to accelerate the slow start up of Starter go to:
Options > Settings... > Workbench
and only select:

• Display "Online/offline comparison" when connecting
• Display "Download motor database to memory card in target device" when connecting (from Starter V5.4)

as shown below:

6 Troubleshooting

6.1 Error Message --> The project is write-protected or is already being used by another process on a different computer

This message can come up even when you made sure that no other process is accessing the STARTER project. Due to a deinstallation routine of Office365 a problem appeared in combination with STARTER. Because of this all STARTER projects are write-protected.

If that is the case you may have to start a quick installation procedure which takes around 1min. After that you should be good to go again.
